The machines in the Library are printers, photocopiers and scanners. There is at least one machine located on each floor of the Library. There is a colour printer/photocopier/scanner on the ground floor. Printers, photocopiers and scanners are also available elsewhere in the University.
If you are unable to come to the Library, or can only visit infrequently, you can ask the Library to scan copies of articles from journals and chapters from books for you (see Serviced Scanning section below).
Self-Service Printing and Photocopying
The Library uses the FollowMe print system that is also in operation in the Main Building. This system allows you to print to local printers in the same room as you as well as other printers around the University using one printer credit account. Please see the Information Systems Aston student guide for printing for a more detailed explanation and instructions. You can also print from your own laptop or home computer using the FollowMe system. This is a trial service and instructions are available here. Watch these video guides to help you use the photocopying, printing and scanning facilities in the Library.
You can ask for scanned copies of articles from journals and chapters from books to be made on your behalf. These will be emailed to your Aston email address. In order to request a scan, please fill in the request form and return to us in the Library.
Please check first to see if the book or journal is available at Aston using Library SmartSearch.
If we do not have what you want you will need to use the Inter Library Loan service.
You may only request one article from any one issue of a journal, or one reasonable length chapter from a book. Requests for multiple articles or chapters from the same issue/book are not permitted due to copyright legislation.
Serviced scanning is charged at the following rate: 8p per page.
Charges will be added to your Library record and can be cleared in the usual way - by cash or cheque at the Library Help desk. You can also pay by credit card by contacting the University Cashiers on 0121 204 4353 quoting account code 1801 16022.
