Teaching Bites 2012

This September Library & Information Services (LIS) will present a series of short, informal seminars on topics relevant to all teaching staff.  Whether you want to find open educational resources to repurpose and make your teaching more exciting or see how you can guide your students towards using the best resources available, the programme offers the chance to find out how LIS can support you in your teaching. You will also get your first chance to see the brand new Library SmartSearch, the one stop shop for searching.

The seminars will be held in the Seminar Room on the 2nd floor of the Library.  Lunch will be provided from 12:30 and seminars will start at 13:00, with an opportunity for discussion/questions afterwards. Booking is not necessary, but it would be helpful if you could let us know if you will be attending.

Share-a-like: Locating and re-using Open Educational Resources for Learning.

 

The session covers an introduction to locating and repurposing Open Educational Resources (OER) for teaching and learning. The open sharing (re)use and of OERs has been growing steadily over the past decade, giving lecturing staff access to a plethora of learning resources to legally reuse.  This session covers a short history, locating and (re)use of OERs, and also copyright aspects of sharing your learning objects with the wider HE community.

The Library Catalogue and Aston e-Library will no longer be available from September.  Be the first to see Library SmartSearch, the new way of searching for resources, both print and electronic.  Designed for staff and students, this is a one stop shop service to give you quick and easy access to thousands of resources.

Academic behaviour influences student practice, so being thoughtful in your approach to information has a positive impact on student behaviour.  We will look at the small actions that can have big effects on the way students find, use, and communicate information, and how you can ensure you are nurturing best practice in your students.
