You are expected to search for and collect books from the shelves yourself.
To find out what books, journals, reports etc. the Library holds, use Library SmartSearch. You can search the Library SmartSearch online and don't have to be on campus.
On the Ground Floor of the Library there is a Help desk where you can get help.
To borrow a book you take it to one of the Self-Service Machines on the Ground Floor. Select Issue or Return from the display screen. If there is a problem please go to the Help desk where Library Staff will be pleased to help you.
Books are borrowed for a fixed period called a ‘loan period’. You must bring books back by the due date shown on your receipt.
We send e-mails to your Aston e-mail account. Please check it regularly. This is where you will receive reminders that your books are due to be returned, notices about reserved books etc.
Return books at a Self Service Machine, following the instructions on screen.
If you do not return your books on time you will be charged a fine.
If you are unable to retun your books for any reason eg. illness, please contact us.
If no one else wants the book you can keep it longer by ‘renewing it’. Log into ‘My Library Record’ using your university username and password.
If the book you want is out on loan you can reserve it online. When it is available you will receive an email telling you how to collect it.
If you have borrowed a long loan book and someone else wants it, you will be given a new due date. It is important that you return the book by the new date.
