Designed by Sir Basil Spence, Glover and Ferguson 1972-75.

Opened in 1975 to serve student population of 3,700 full time equivalent (FTE) students.

The building comprises four floors, covering an area of 5,421 m2.

It is a typical building of the 1970s: deep plan with mainly slit windows and with internal lighting providing the majority of the illumination; a sealed building relying on its air conditioning system for heating, cooling and ventilation.

The first phase of the refurbishment was achieved within a budget of around £6million.
