Student profile

Bethan Lye, BSc Psychology

"I chose to study BSc Human Psychology at Aston for many reasons - but the placement year was a big draw. I spent a year in my hometown of Southampton working with a clinical psychologist in the NHS Mental Health Rehabilitation Team. I really enjoyed this experience and it has helped me to think about my career options after I graduate.

"The psychology course is both interesting and varied. It is also BPS (British Psychological Society) accredited which means I can work towards becoming a chartered psychologist after I graduate."

Student profile

Tulpesh Patel, MRes Cognitive Neuroscience

Aston University is renowned in the field of neuroimaging and, with our 3T MRI and MEG scanner, it is one of the few UK universities offering an advanced psychological research methods programme. In addition to the academic work, Aston offers lots of development courses.

In comparison to my previous studies, there was a shift in the complexity in the material but supportive and knowledgeable staff were always on hand. The work I have done has really solidified my ambition to forge a path in neuroscience research and I am now expanding much of my existing MRes work as a PhD in collaboration with a local hospital."

Student profile

Geoff Bates, MSc Health Psychology

"With my role as a research assistant at Liverpool John Moores Univeristy, the MSc Health Psychology allowed me to develop the skills I needed for the role.

"In my job I interact with people from a wide range of backgrounds including health professionals, the police and other researchers, as well as drug and alcohol users. One of the most important things I feel I gained from the course was an insight into how to work well and engage with people from outside my
immediate field.

"The support I received from staff throughout the course was excellent and I would recommend the course to anyone who is hoping to carry out research around health behaviour."
