The School of Life and Health Sciences offers an extensive range of exciting research opportunities and our strong research environment ensures PhD students develop expertise in fields that are relevant to today's science practices.

World-leading facilities

Research students are supported by our excellent research laboratories and equipment - these laboratories have been undergoing a multi million pound refurbishment programme since 2006.

Excellent RAE results

The exceptional quality of our research was confirmed in the latest Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) results – with research in Allied Health Professions and Studies ranked 3rd out of 63 UK higher education institutions, based on quality and quantity of research output.

A series of PhD projects have been proposed by Aston's Life and Health Sciences' researchers.These projects are categorised by our three core areas of research :

  • Neurosciences (covers Cognitive & Affective Neuroscience, Neurophysiology & Clinical Neuroimaging and Sensory & Perceptual Systems)

  • Health Sciences (covers Pharmacy, Ophthalmic Research and Health & Lifespan Psychology)

Prospective research students are also encouraged to apply to our research group members directly with relevant PhD proposals.
