Understanding the mechanisms of paediatric developmental disorders

On this site you will be able to get find more information about the Understanding the mechanisms of comorbidity between paediatric developmental disorders project.

This study is looking at how the brain develops throughout childhood and adolescence. We will test whether the changes in brain development associated with dyslexia and developmental coordination disorder (DCD, also known as dyspraxia) are because of developmental delay, which is where the progress of development is just slower than normal, or atypical development, which is where development is different to other children. It is hoped that the findings of this will improve the way we understand and diagnose these disorders in children and how their different symptoms overlap.

The research is funded by the Waterloo Foundation  and is conducted by some of the Aston Brain Centre research team at Aston, Dr Tulpesh Patel, Prof Paul Furlong, Dr Kim Rochelle, Dr Caroline Witton and Dr Joel Talcott.

We are always looking for children to take part in our studies. If you are a child or parent who would like to take part, or would like more information, please visit the subpages in the left-hand menu, email Dr Tulpesh Patel at tulpesh.patel@gmail.com, or phone on either 0121 2044250 or 07552525357.
