Management of the neuroimaging facility

The neuroimaging facilities are managed and overseen by the Neuroimaging Management Committee (NMC), chaired by Professor Paul Furlong.  The committee comprises of academic staff members whose funded research forms the bulk of the activity in the neuroimaging laboratories and who have the responsibility for supervision and governance of research projects.

Current membership of the NMC is as follows:

All research enquiries should be directed to Professor Paul Furlong in the first instance.

Clinical governance

Clinical activity in the neuroimaging laboratories is subject to the joint clinical governance procedures which have been put in place with the Aston Day Hospital. The Clinical Governance Committee (Neuroimaging) is chaired by Professor Stefano Seri, the primary contact for any enquiries.

New and prospective research projects

All prospective neuroimaging projects undergo an approval process through the NMC, to ensure that they can be appropriately supported and that they fit within our strategic remit.  Each project must have an agreed sponsor from the membership of the NMC.

All projects must also receive full ethical approval from the Aston University Ethics Committee in addition to any other relevant ethics committees

For information about the project approval process and project costs, contact Professor Paul Furlong.

The approved user system

Data collection in the MEG, MRI, and EEG laboratories must be supervised by at least one approved user who has expertise in the safe, ethical, and competent use of the equipment. There are local rules in each laboratory governing the process for becoming an approved user, overseen by the NMC.

We offer training opportunities for those wishing to learn the techniques of MEG and MRI.
