Practice-based clinical modules:
- Introduction to Clinical Practice
- Clinical Interventions
- Formulary Development, Clinical Audit and Communication.
Compulsory knowledge based components:
- Psychological Therapies
- Substance Misuse
- Evidence Based Medicine and Information Technology
- Pharmacoeconomics.
Plus a choice of two from the following four:
- Research Methods
- Learning Disabilities
- Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
- Epilepsy .

- A degree in Pharmacy, professional registration as a pharmacist and the Postgraduate Certificate in Psychiatric Therapeutics plus regular frequent access to adult in-patients suffering from a full range of psychiatric disorders with the opportunity to participate in a multidisciplinary forum in a clinical psychiatric environment.
- International students must possess an English IELTS score of 7 across all bands.
The range of learning methods will be used, including distance learning materials, directed reading, self assessed exercises, additional reading and participation in a multi disciplinary forum (MDT).
Assessment is by assignments, clinical proformas, oral case presentations and a final, open-book examination
The United Kingdom Psychiatric Pharmacy Group (UKPPG) supports the programme which is additionally accredited by the College of Mental Health Pharmacists (CMHP).
This qualification is often a requirement for specialist clinical mental health posts in the NHS.
“Specialist status” as deemed by Membership of the College of Mental Health Pharmacists is also increasingly expected for higher level clinical posts in the NHS. The Diploma forms part of the pathway for this accreditation.

Authored text and the Oxford Textbook of Psychiatry are supplied as course resources.
Access to the internet is essential.
- Celia Feetam has worked in psychiatry as a clinical pharmacist for 34 years both in the NHS as well as in the independent sector. She is a member of and immediate past President of the College of Mental Health Pharmacists. (CMHP) She also works as a consultant and advisor to the NHS, the Department of Health and the pharmaceutical industry. She has lectured and published extensively on the subject of psychiatric pharmacy and psychiatric therapeutics
- Dave Branford, PhD MRPharmS MCPP MCMHP is Chief Pharmacist for Derbyshire Mental Health Services NHS Trust. He has been a Mental Health Act Commissioner and also works as a consultant and advisor to the NHS, the Department of Health and the pharmaceutical industry. He has lectured and published extensively on the subject of psychiatric pharmacy, learning disabilities and psychiatric therapeutics. He is a member of Council of the College of Mental Health Pharmacists. He additionally works as a member of the course team as an external marker
- Stephen Bleakley.BPharm MRPharmS Dip.Psych.Pharm MCMHP is currently a clinical psychiatric pharmacist in Portsmouth. He is a member and Registrar of the College of Mental Health Pharmacists and works as a member of the course team as an external marker.
Additional clinical psychiatric pharmacists across the UK and abroad have been accredited to act as external assessors in order to listen to and assess oral case presentations.
