Aston University provides a welcoming and multi-cultural learning experience to approximately 10,000 students, many of whom live on our safe and friendly city centre campus. The University has more than 2,300 international students from over 120 countries studying a wide range of subjects.

Aston University's links with Nigeria

Nigerian students have been studying at Aston for many years and each year we welcome many more new students. We currently have 150 Nigerian students studying at Aston University.


Academic staff regularly visit Nigeria to work with our partner institutions  and to take part in international conferences.

Aston University

There are a number of societies which may be of particular interest to Nigerian students. The African Carribean Student's Society organises cultural and social events.

Undergraduate

Students who have Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (SSCE) will be required to complete a recognised Foundation Programme.

For entry to the International Foundation Programme we would require an average of eight subjects at C6 and above. Must include subjects that are relevant to the degree programme.  

You should have a minimum of Grade 4-6 in SSCE in English language. If you cannot show that you have obtained this grade in English, then you can provide us with an IELTS or TOEFL qualification. Please see our standard English language requirements.

Postgraduate - Masters

You should have a degree from an Nigerian university recognised by the Nigerian University Commission (NUC) and the specific percentage requirement will vary depending on the course you are applying for at Aston and the Nigerian university from which you have graduated. In general applicants should have completed a Bachelors honours upper second class degree.

If you are applying for finance, engineering or science based subjects, you must have studied a similar field in your undergraduate degree.

There are a number of conversion courses in the Business School which will accept students from any subject background.  

English language requirements for taught postgraduate programmes.

Postgraduate - MBA

You can apply for the MBA programme with an undergraduate degree, in any subject area, from an overseas institution and a minimum of three years post graduation managerial work experience. You should have completed should have completed a Bachelors honours upper second class degree from a recognised Nigerian university.

Postgraduate – Executive MBA

You can apply for the Executive MBA programme with an undergraduate degree, in any subject area, from an overseas institution and a minimum of five years post graduation managerial work experience. You should have completed a Bachelors honours upper second class degree from a recognised Nigerian university. This programme takes 2.5 years in total and is taught in blocks of 6 days at a time.  It requires the commitment of the student to travel to the UK 6 times per year. 

Postgraduate - Research

Each of Aston's Schools of Study has a number of research groups with the potential to host PhD students. Research specialisms include finance, economics, marketing, organisational psychology, bioenergy, knowledge engineering, photonics, languages, biomedical sciences, neurosciences, health sciences and more. 

You have to submit a detailed research proposal outlining your intended research topic, its objectives, proposed method of research and an indication of how the proposed research topic relates to previous work by other researchers. Find out more on Aston's Postgraduate research pages
