ABS (Aston Business School): MSc EU Scholarships

Aston Business School is pleased to announce a scheme which offers 35 scholarships to UK and EU students entering the full-time MSc programmes in 2010/11. 

Scholarships are of up to £3,000 for qualifying applicants to help with the cost of tuition fees.

Aston Business School, EMLYON Business School and Munich School of Management have several scholarships available to European and International EMM students. These scholarships are limited in number and are highly competitive. ABS (Aston Business School): MBA Scholarships

Aston business School offers scholarships to students from EU countries, EU candidate countries, Latin American countries, African countries, Middle Eastern countries, Russia, Japan and South Korea. We offer a scholarship of  £5,000 for qualifying applicants to help with the cost of tuition fees.

EAS (School of Engineering and Applied Sciences) International Scholarships  

The School of Engineering & Applied Sciences is offering 8 International Scholarships to self-funded international students entering full-time MSc programmes in September 2010. To be awarded a scholarship, an applicant should normally have or expect to achieve a minimum of a first class Honours degree or equivalent, and be able to demonstrate the potential for outstanding achievement. The awarded Scholarships are £5,000 each to help with the cost of tuition fees.

LHS (School of Life and Health Sciences) POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS – Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme

LHS were successful in bidding for 1 award to cover the Masters programmes in MSc in Biomedical Science or MSc in Drug Delivery for the academic year 2010/11.  These scholarships are for students from developing Commonwealth countries who would not otherwise be able to study in the United Kingdom.

 

These are fully funded scholarships and include living stipend.

Eligibility of candidates for the awards:

  • Must hold an offer for MSc in Biomedical Sciences or MSc in Drug Delivery programme

  • First degree at either First/Upper Second class or equivalent (work experience CANNOT be accepted as an alternative)

  • Must be a national of a developing Commonwealth country, permanently living in this country. Preference is given to applicants from poorer developing countries in the Commonwealth
  • Must have the University’s minimum English language requirement as no funding will be given for pre-sessional programmes
  • Must NOT have studied for one year or more in a developed country previously
  • Must not be employed by a national government or an organisation owned or part-owned by the government (parastatal organisation) - higher education institutions are exempted from this restriction.  

The deadline for the applications for the 2010/11 academic year is the end of April 2010.

LSS (School of Languages & Social Studies) POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS for International Students

The School of Languages and Social Sciences offers three bursaries worth £1,500 (each) to international overseas students on all our MA programmes.

You will be considered for this bursary if you:

  • Meet the entry requirements for your programme of study (Honours Degree and IELTS score - refer to the relevant course outline for full details)
  • Submit a 2000 word essay on the topic:
    'How would the receipt of a scholarship contribute to your programme of study'

LSS (School of Languages & Social Studies) POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS for EU Students

To cover the cost of your tuition fees


To The School of Languages and Social Sciences offers three Home/EU fees-only bursaries for students with native speaker competence in English. In return, the students will complete up to six hours a week pastoral work for the School.

The exact nature of this work will be decided at the beginning of the programme but may include providing support to international Postgraduate and Junior Year Abroad students, the IELTS team, our conference and workshop organisers, academic visitors or students with special needs. The work will often take place at different times every week - depending on the projects you support.

If you wish to be considered for the bursary, you must submit an essay of approximately 1000 words along with your application on the following:

What do you consider to be your major strengths and weaknesses? How would you be able to support international students on programmes in the School of Languages and Social Sciences?

LSS (School of Languages & Social Studies) POSTGRADUATE DISTANCE LEARNING SCHOLARSHIPS – Commonwealth Scholarship Scheme

 

The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission is sponsoring 5 awards for MSc TESOL by distance learning in the School of Languages and Social Sciences at Aston University.  The awards cover the cost of tuition fees for 2010/11 entryThese scholarships are for students from Cameroon, Kenya, Nigeria and Tanzania, who would not otherwise be able to complete the programme.

 

To be eligible for an award you must:

 

  • have a first degree or equivalent (work experience CANNOT be accepted as an alternative)
  • have at least two years of relevant work experience
  • be a national of one of the above mentioned countries, permanently living in this country.
  • have the University’s minimum English language entry requirement for the programme (IELTS: overall score of 7 with a minimum of Band 7 in Speaking and Writing and Band 6.5 in Reading and Listening, or TOEFL: score of 620 paper-based test (with TWE of 5.0), 260 computer-based test (with TWE of 5.0) or 105 internet-based test with a minimum of 25 in Writing and Speaking and 23 in Reading and Writing)
  • not have studied for one year or more in a developed country previously
  • not be employed by a national government or an organisation owned or part-owned by the government (parastatal organisation) - higher education institutions are exempted from this restriction.

 Aston University International Scholarship for Vietnam

The International Office has one £5,000 scholarship available for a successful applicant to their new International Scholarship for Vietnam. Scholarships will take the form of a reduction in tuition fees.  

To be considered for the scholarship:

  • Applicants must be deemed full overseas fee payers and either a national of Vietnam or ordinarily resident in Vietnam for the last 3 years.  
  • Applicants must hold a conditional or unconditional offer for a one year postgraduate programme of study commencing at Aston University October 2010.
  • Applicants agree to work with the Aston University International Office to share their experiences of application, arrival and study at the University in the form of regular updates which may take the form of student profile, newsletter articles, student blog etc. to be advised by the International Office.
  • Applicants must submit an application in the form of a 500 word essay outlining why they would benefit from the scholarship and the difference it would make to them as well as why they would be a suitable person to work with the International Office to share their experiences at the University and help promote Aston to future students.  

The closing date for scholarship applications will be Friday 31st July 2010 and the decision of the panel will be final. Applications to be sent to IntScholarships@aston.ac.uk  with subject title 'Vietnam Scholarship'.

The successful scholar will be notified within 2 weeks of the closing date.

The Aston Business School is offering 8 Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) posts for the 2010/11 academic year. The post is funded for three years full-time and is valued at £20,000 per year.

Bolshak Scholarships Programmes

Bolashak (the International Presidential Scholarships Programme of Kazakhstan) has been running since 1993. The Bolashak Programme is administered by the JSC Center for International Programs of Kazakhstan which comes under the Ministry of Education and Science. The aim of the programme is to contribute to the training of specialists in fields which the Kazakh government consider priority areas. These include business & management (including specialisms relating to finance, project management), computer science, economics, engineering disciplines, health sciences, international relations, polymer engineering/science, public policy, technology and telecommunications.

Bolashak scholarships provide funding for the duration of study at undergraduate Bachelors, postgraduate taught Masters and postgraduate research PhD level.

Allan and Nesta Ferguson MBA Africa Scholarships

The Office of Advancement, in partnership with Gareth Griffiths, MBA Director (External), has recently secured a second £30,000 donation for Aston Business School from the Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust. The first £30,000 donation last year launched the Ferguson 'MBA Africa' Scholarship Fund for MBA tuition fees, intended to reach out to African students who have been under-represented on the MBA.. Joint Aston / Allan and Nesta Ferguson International Friendship Scholarships

Six scholarships are available exclusively for African and South American applicants to an MA programme run by the School of Languages and Social Sciences (LSS). These are dedicated to improving educational opportunities for people exclusively from African and South American countries, are available to applicants with limited financial resources. Applicants who wish to be considered for the award of an LSS MA Scholarship must submit an essay of 2000-3000 words along with their application. The applicable programmes are as follows;

• MA in TESOL Studies

• MA in Translation Studies

• MA in TESOL and Translation Studies

• MA in Applied Linguistics

Successful applicants will receive a reduction in their total MA fees leaving a payable balance of £1,000. The Scholarship is paid to the University as a contribution towards tuition fees and not directly to any student.

Fundatia Dinu Patriciu (Romania) – Open Horizons Scholarship Scheme

The Open Horizons scholarships are awarded to Romanian students wishing to complete their intellectual and professional training through a Master's or doctoral degree programme at a university outside Romania.  Each year, the Dinu Patriciu Fundatia offers 100 scholarships each worth USD 15,000 per year for the whole period of the Masters or Doctoral programme.  Scholarships can be used to cover fees and/or living expenses.  Students must be Romanian citizens holding an offer to study at Aston University and must agree to return to work in Romania after their studies have ended for a defined period of time.
