I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Aston and feel privileged to have
been a part of such an excellent university. Before starting at Aston I didn’t
know what subject I wanted to study, however the engineering foundation year not
only provided me with a broad knowledge of general engineering, but it also gave
me time to decide between Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. I was given
excellent support from the lecturers when making this decision.
Although the course modules were at times difficult, I
thrived on the challenges that I faced throughout the degree course. I had much
support from a number of lecturers, not only within the Chemical Engineering
(CEAC) department but also from the maths drop in centre. In my final year at
Aston I became president of the CEAC society, we offered a range of social
activities and charity events throughout the year. Running the society
alongside my final year project/modules was indeed a difficult task, however I
enjoyed the responsibilities and of course it looks great on my CV!
After graduating from Aston with a 2.1 degree, I was offered
a graduate process engineer position at Crondall Energy Consultants; where I
work with a number of Aston graduates. Crondall provides strategic and
technical services for offshore oil and gas projects that use floating
production and subsea technology. Since joining Crondall I have been involved
in a number of real and diverse projects; working within a fast paced
environment with strict deadlines and client interaction has been a challenging
but exhilarating experience. I am looking forward to my future at Crondall and I
aim to achieve chartered status in the coming years. Studying Chemical
Engineering at Aston was the best decision I have made, it has provided me with
an excellent degree and assisted me with gaining a career in the oil and gas
industry.
