What is a KTP?
The Knowledge Transfer Partnership
(KTP) scheme is a government initiative operated by the Department of
Trade and Industry (DTI), which has a history dating back to 1975. It
is funded by the DTi together with a number of public sector
organisations.
KTPs are a partnership between a university (the Knowledge
Base Partner) and an industrial or commercial enterprise (the Company
Partner). It is particularly aimed at small and medium sized
enterprises (SMEs). The two partners are brought together through an
Associate, a graduate who is formally employed by the university, but
who works full time at the company.
The objectives of every Knowledge Transfer Partnership are to:
- facilitate
the transfer of knowledge and the spread of technical and business
skills between universities and industry – particularly small and
medium sized enterprises (SMEs);
- stimulate and enhance business relevant research and training undertaken by the university partner;
- provide company-based training for graduates in order to enhance their business and specialist skills;
