The Polymer Processing and Performance (PPP) Research Group has a long established national and international presence.  The core of research fellows and postgraduates are engaged in studies targeted to the chemistry of polymers and antioxidants. The Group also hosts regularly international visiting researchers on short and long-term basis (below are  pictures of some past and present members of the group).

The Group is actively engaged in basic and applied research on the behaviour of polymers, antioxidants and  other specialty additives at a molecular level to help provide innovative solutions for lifetime performance leading to development of new processes and novel materials that respond directly to the needs of business, industry and society, through to targeted applications and exploitations with industrial partners.

The Group has a world recognised expertise in the field and a track record for world-wide collaboration and funding of its research.  The Group maintains an active and large network of collaborators from industry, external research institutes and Universities throughout Europe, USA. Asia and the Far East, and has taken a leadership role in several large collaborative projects.

Financial support for the research work of the Group is broadly based covering regional, national and international bodies and ranges from major Government organisations: MAFF, DEFRA, MOD through to KTP, EPSRC-Industrial CASE awards, EPSRC-LINK, the EU including a current Integrated Project with 23 European partners, UK  and overseas multinational companies, as well as engagement with SME’s  both at regional and European level. The Group has been successful in winning many FP2, FP3, FP5, FP6 Grants from the EU.
