Benefits

• Birmingham City Council will benefit from the proof-of-concept of a biomass based CHP system, which is of strategic interest in meeting its targets for the reductions of greenhouse gas emissions and could be implemented more widely in the City.
  
  
• Institutional users such as universities and hospitals are important users of CHP systems in the UK, as are low-carbon housing developments.
  
  
• Water companies such as Severn Trent Water will benefit from Work package 1 as it will quantify the scope for wastewater reuse for energy crops within specific regions.
  
  
• Manufacturers in India and users in both countries will benefit from the low cost manufacture (and licensing where appropriate) of cogeneration equipment in India for use in UK and elsewhere.
  
  
• In India, tri-generation plant will facilitate self-reliance in energy services among farmers and communities and rural entrepreneurs, and enable rural people to escape from the cycle of poverty through the addition of value to agricultural produce and to their skills.
  
  
• A further benefit from phytoremediation (Work package 1) is the control of disease vectors (such as malarial mosquitoes) thriving on open bodies of discarded wastewater.
  
  
• The findings from the work will inform policy makers with a potential interest in promoting bioenergy systems for appropriate applications.
  
  
• Aston University and IITD will benefit from introduction of new curriculum material and research activities.
