Foundation Years in Engineering and Science at Aston
The Foundation Years within the School of Engineering and Applied Science are designed for students from a wide range of backgrounds who have an interest in Engineering, the Sciences, Computing, or Combined Honours degree programmes (where two subjects are studied each year).
The courses attract entrants who, for whatever reasons, do not have qualifications at the expected level or in appropriate subjects for admission to the first year of Aston’s degree course, or where their qualifications are non-traditional for university entry.
Each Foundation Year aims to fully prepare students with the knowledge and skills in mathematics, science, and English language to progress onto a degree course.
There are four Foundation Years courses, each with its own well-defined, specific aims and objectives:
These courses have been developed over fifteen years and have equipped many students with the specific skills and knowledge to follow programmes in Engineering and Science.
The courses cater for UK, EU and international students. Specialist provision is provided for international students who do not have English language skills at the right level for direct admission to the first year of Aston’s degree courses.
