Congratulations to James Kent who won an
IET Ambition Award over the summer. James was the top student in electronic engineering at the end of the first year and the award is well deserved.

Electronic Engineering Society lab opens

First year Electronic Engineering students have taken on the running of an electronics laboratory to enable them to work outside of timetabled classes. The lab is open to all society members 9-5pm every week day. It is hoped to move to extended access once the trial period is over.
PhD student Graham Lee has been awarded £500 by the Scholarships Committee of the IET to support a study trip to the Data Storage Institute in Singapore.
Richard Chambers wins second prize in School of Engineering and Applied Science video competition

Final year Electronic Engineering student Richard Chambers won second price in the School of Engineering and Applied Science video competition. The video described a first year project where he designed an audio amplifier that fitted into a wall plug socket.
Aston University PhD student, Graham Lee, has won this year’s UK final of the Institute of Engineering and Technology’s (IET) Present Around the World competition.
His talk entitled ‘Machining in a world smaller than a human hair’ impressed the judging panel at the event, which was held in Birmingham City Centre, at the IET’s Austin Court facility.

Electronic Engineering rewards its most successful students Competition

Each year we have the pleasure of distributing a number of prizes to the most highly performing students. Seven students transfer to new MEng

Seven second year students have transferred to the recently launched fast track MEng programme. They will take additional classes over the summer before the complete either an industrial placement or a study placement at a European University. When they return to Aston in the autumn 2012 they will take Master’s level modules to complete their MEng.
