What is the NSS?

The National Student Survey (NSS) is a national survey, which has been conducted by Ipsos MORI annually since 2005. It gathers opinions from final year undergraduates on the quality of their courses. The survey asks undergraduates to provide feedback on what it has been like to study their course at their institution.

The survey runs across all publicly funded Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland.

The NSS is run by Ipsos MORI and commissioned by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE). 

The NSS is your opportunity to provide feedback regarding your course. Let us know the things that are good about your course, and the things that could be improved.

Why should I take part?  

We listen to your feedback, and as a result, since 2010 satisfaction levels have increased for every single section of the NSS here at Aston.

The NSS results are a prominent part of the Key Information Sets (KIS) and Unistats, the official resource for comparing UK Higher Education courses. The NSS provides prospective students with comparable data to aid their decision making about where to study.
 
Results will be used by journalists in the national press for matters of public interest. We want the rest of the UK to see that Aston has the most engaged students in the country; last year 66% of our eligible students took part in the survey, and this year we want to smash that total!

How to complete the NSS?

Eligible students will receive an email from Ipsos MORI in the week commencing 28th January. Simply follow your unique link in your email and you will be taken to the survey – it is a multiple choice survey that only takes 5 minutes to complete!

Alternatively you can complete the survey at any time before the 30th April 2013 at the following address: www.thestudentsurvey.com

1st or 2nd year?

Just because you are not yet eligible to complete the NSS does not mean that your opinions are not important to us. Therefore, an internal student survey will also be distributed to you within the week commencing the 28th January. Students that complete this survey will be entered into a prize draw to win one of several prizes, from cash to Amazon vouchers.

As a ‘thank you’ for giving us 5 minutes of your time to complete the survey, we will be giving you £5 worth of free printing credits. 

Simply complete the survey online, and once you finish, email your confirmation page to nss@aston.ac.uk and within a couple of weeks your printing credits will be automatically uploaded onto your account.
