Aplications for 2011/2012

Applications to the Access to Learning Fund for the 2011/2012 academic year are open however, we are unable to make awards until we recieve additional funds.  Applications for the 2012/2013 academic year will begin to be assessed from 1 August 2012 and we will welcome applications and summer applications from 1 July 2012.

What is the Access to Learning Fund?

The Access to Learning Fund is a source of financial assistance for Aston University who are experiencing unexpected financial hardship or a genuine lack of sufficient funds.

You may also apply to the Fund if, following an initial screening process, you have been identified as maybe having a specific learning difficulty. An applicant would meet certain criteria and their application would be supported by the Disability and Additional Needs Unit (DANU) who can be contacted by telephoning The Hub on: 0121 204 4007 or by emailing: danu@aston.ac.uk

Who can apply?

‘Home’ UK Aston University students, both Undergraduate and Postgraduate (taught and research), or year zero Foundation Degree Aston students (meeting specific eligibilty criteria).

When do I need to apply?

You can apply at any time during the academic year.  Please apply sooner rather than later if you are experiencing financial difficulty as funds are limited.

If successful, how would the grant
be paid to me?

The grant is normally paid directly into your nominated bank account.

Where can I obtain an
application form?

You can apply using the paper application form which can be found can be obtained from The Hub or online if for example you are undertaking an overseas placement.


Are any groups of students given priority?

  • Students with children

  • Students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities

  • Students from low-income families

  • Students who are from care or a Foyer

  • Students in their final year

  • Students who have been homeless

  • Students on compulsory unpaid or low paid placements
