Social or Communication Impairment (e.g. Autisitic Spectrum Disorder or Asperger syndrome) 

For Aston students with Asperger syndrome DANU services may include:
  • Advice and support with applying for Disabled Students’ Allowance  (DSA) or other available funding
  • Advice on diagnostic assessments
  • Referral to Assistive Technology Officer (ATO) for advice
  • Mentor support  (DSA approval or other funding source required)
  • Study Support Workers e.g. note-takers, readers or other study support (DSA approval or other funding source required)
  • An arrangement with the library to enable you to extend book loans
  • Access to Counselling Services
  • Liaison with your School of Study to arrange appropriate support such as:
    • Lecture notes or presentation materials in advance
    • Extra exam time in examinations or other assessment arrangements
    • Additional support from your Personal Tutor
Aston students, who think they may have an Autistic Spectrum Disorder, but have not received a diagnosis, can contact DANU for advice and, if appropriate, a diagnostic assessment can be arranged.
