What Does DANU Do?

Aston University's Disability and Additional Needs Unit (DANU) is here to support you from application throughout your studies, to graduation.  DANU is a confidential advice and support service, committed to assisting students with additional needs, to Live, Study and Enjoy student life.  You may not consider yourself to have a disability, but feel you have additional support needs which you would like to discuss.  We are here to advise you, provide you with information and where appropriate, offer you support for a variety of disabilities and additional needs

For students with a disability or additional needs the types of support you may be entitled to are as follows: 

  • Arrange screening for Specific Learning Differences (SpLDs) and arrange diagnostic assessments.

  • Advise on funding available for disability related support, which for home students includes Disabled Students Allowance (DSAs)

  • Give advice about support available for your course and exams.

  • Organise Study Skills Support Tuition.

  • Arrange Study Support Workers provided via Clear Links Support Ltd

  • Liaise with your School of Study to arrange appropriate support such as:

  • Lecture notes or presentation materials in advance

  • Extra time in examinations / class tests and other assessment arrangements

  • Additional support from your Personal Tutor

  • Referral to Assistive Technology Officer (ATO) for advice

  • An orientation of the campus when you arrive

  • Liaise with other internal and external Support Services - Counselling, Learning Development Centre, Social Services and Residences

  • Provide local disability related information

  • Assist with general disability related queries
