The LSS/Centre
for Learning, Innovation and Professional Practice (CLIPP) Postgraduate Society is a part of the
Aston Postgraduate Research Society (APRS) and aims to enhance the academic and
social experience of research students in the School of Languages and Social
Sciences or CLIPP. It is supported by the School and Aston Graduate School but is
entirely run by the postgraduate research students for postgraduate research students.
This gives us the ability to deliver the kind of activities that our members
want and that will be most useful to you.
Benefits of the LSSRSS and how to join
The idea for the society stemmed from the
fact that research students might spend their tenure at Aston only knowing the
handful of people in their particular field of study: languages, translation
studies, European studies, Politics, International Relations, Sociologyor Pedagogical Research. In
that vein the primary objective of the society has been to improve social
cohesion by organising activities such as regular social evenings (the majority
of these providing free food and drink for our members), academic events (eg
research colloquiums) as well as excursions, such as visits to theme parks, etc.
The best part is that you don’t have to do
anything! By being a postgraduate research student in LSSor
CLIPP, you automatically
become a member of the LSS/CLIPP Postgraduate Society and the APRS. The Society is
Guild-affiliated and is also recognised as a legitimate body by the School's
Research Committee. This means that you get the best of both worlds - great
socials, and a mechanism for your voice to be heard by those who can really
make a difference when it comes to important things like your research and
other concerns.
