The Engineering Postgraduate Research Society (EPRS)

EPRS

The School of Engineering and Applied Science has its own research student society which is part of the Aston Postgraduate Research Society (APRS)

The Engineering Postgraduate Research Society (EPRS) was founded in 2008 with the aim of enhancing the academic and social experiences of research students in the School of Engineering and Applied Science. It is supported by the School and Aston Graduate School but is entirely run by the postgraduate research students for postgraduate research students. This gives us the ability to deliver the kind of activities that our members want and that will be most useful to you.

Benefits of the EPRS and how to join...

The idea for the society stemmed from the fact that research students might spend their tenure at Aston only knowing the handful of people that constitute their research group: this despite being part of a School with 150 or so active postgraduates. In that vein the primary objective of the Society has been to improve social cohesion by organising activities such as regular social evenings, academic events (eg research colloquiums), BBQs and pub quizzes - the majority of these  providing free food and drink for our members, as well as excursions such as visits to theme parks and a canal boat trip.

The best thing is you have to do nothing! By being a postgrad student in EAS, you automatically become a member of EPRS.

The society is Guild-affiliated and is also recognised as a legitimate body by the School's Research Strategy Committee. This means you get the best of both worlds - great socials, and a mechanism for your voice to be heard by those who can really make a difference when it comes to important things like your research and other concerns.

The Society Exec and how to get involved!

The society executive is comprised of one volunteer member from each of the Subject Groups, although all research students are actively encouraged to contribute their ideas for events or ways to improve the Society. The executive is renewed every May, so if you're an engineering  research student and have big ideas for ways to improve life for you and your peers, then drop us a line and get involved at eas_student_society@aston.ac.uk. There is also a Facebook group

The representatives of EPRS are currently:

Paolo Rosa (President)  (rosap@aston.ac.uk)

Ksenia Goroshko (goroshkk@aston.ac.uk)

We look forward to hearing from you!
