UniFest

Aston University has hosted a Summer School since July 2000. Summer Schools are targeted at pupils of Aimhigher partner schools and colleges who have the ability to study at a higher level but may not have thought about going to University. This may be because they do not know what is involved or they may be from a background where there is no family history of Higher Education.

This year's Aimhigher Summer School provides an insight and experience of university and student life, as well as an insight into studying Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths subjects at a higher-education level.

The programme includes case studies and workshops involving effective team work. All activities are lively and interactive and take place in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. There is an opportunity to receive advice on applying to university supported by optional one-to-one guidance interviews. The programme also includes a wide range of social, sporting and leisure activities including team games, trips out to eat and a disco at the end of their stay.

‘I found it interesting to see images of the eyes - it was a new vocational learning experience’ (Optometry)

‘A good experience. I learnt a lot and would recommend it to anyone who wants to make more friends, understand more about Uni life or have an enjoyable out and about.'

‘It was useful in clearly showing how different skills and ways of studying affect us and finding out about the different skills needed at university’
