Annual Tuition Fees

As a student of the University, you will be responsible for ensuring that the annual tuition fees for each year of your programme are paid. This includes where the fees are being paid by a third party, such as a sponsor or your Local Authority.

Most new Home and EU undergraduate students will be required to pay variable tuition fees. There is an option for Home-EU undergraduate students to take out a loan from the Student Loan Company (“SLC”), who will settle the fees on your behalf – full details of the repayment terms for the loan will be provided by the SLC, but in summary repayments will commence once you graduate and start formal employment.

The University Regulations state that the tuition fees fall due at the start of each academic year and this means that you need to have made the necessary arrangements for the settlement of the tuition fees due by 31 October. Therefore you need to make payment in full by this date or provide supporting documentation of sponsorship, such as:

  • Student Support Notification from the SLC
  • Sponsorship Letter – on Company headed paper, with an authorised signature
  • Company Purchase Order – document must show the Company Name, quote Order Number and provide a contact name

All students, however, can choose to pay by three termly instalments during the academic year - for details click go to Paying the University

You should note that in future years if you have any outstanding debt to the University arising from a previous academic year you will not be allowed to re-enrol for the next academic year until that debt has been cleared and you should therefore contact the Finance Department if you find yourself in this position.

Support Notification

If you do not provide the University with an LA Support Notification form or sponsorship letter/purchase order you will automatically be invoiced for the full tuition fee for the academic year.

If you do not receive a Support Notification form or equivalent by the time of invoicing, it is essential that you make arrangements with the Credit Control Section, regarding payment of your fees at this stage.

Where to get Help with Tuition Fees

You may, depending on your household and income circumstances, be entitled to assistance for all or part of your tuition fees, and in that regard, if you are a student residing in England or Wales you should apply to your Local Authority (LA), for assistance. Your LA will send you detailed information about the procedures and assessment forms to complete and return to them.

Students from Scotland or Northern Ireland should apply to the Students' Award Agency for Scotland (SAAS) or Northern Ireland Education Library Boards (ELB).

Your respective Authority will provide you with the details of how your tuition fee assessment is made and of your eligibility and entitlement to Higher Education Grants and Student Loan Company (SLC) loans. You should contact them directly with any queries about this; click on External Contacts contact details.

When your Authority has completed your assessment, they will send you three copies of a form entitled “Support Notification”. This letter details what contribution, if any, they will make towards your tuition fees. As soon as you receive it, you should give one copy to:
