Advice

To meet the health care needs of Aston student community,  we can offer a centralized source of healthcare and treatment, Convenient, on-campus access to a broad range of clinical services and medical ,eye care and dental specialties are  delivered by highly qualified health care professionals. Aston is all about the ‘student experience’ - access to advice, support and welfare can be invaluable and part of that experience; just knowing that discreet, professional help is at hand if needed is reassuring to know. We have specialist teams available whatever the issue - big or small.

 

The Hub is a drop-in point and resource centre with free internet access, interview rooms and Advice Pods. The Hub brings a number of key University services for students together in a single space for ease of student use and can deal with most non-academic issues. The Hub services are confidential with high levels of staff skills, experience and knowledge available.

Special needs and disabilities

We have a number of adapted rooms for students with special needs or a disability. There are wheelchair-adapted rooms for those
with mobility problems, and it is normally possible to accommodate helpers in rooms if required by a student. Fire alarms can also
be adapted for deaf students to incorporate flashing red lights and vibrating pillows. For more>>

Health Centre
The Halcyon Health Centre is located in Boots the Chemist, High Street, City Centre.

The Campus Satellite Clinic is located in G11, Main Building, Aston University, Aston Triangle, Birmingham B4 7ET.

Please ensure you register with a doctor once you arrive.

Dentist
There is a Dentist on campus which is located in the Vision Sciences Building, Aston University, Aston Triangle, Birmingham B4 7ET.








Opticians
There is an Opticians on campus which is located in the Vision Sciences Building, Aston University, Aston Triangle, Birmingham B4 7ET.








Smoking
All University buildings are now non-smoking. This includes all student bedrooms and communal areas within accommodation. When smoking outside, you should consider the health of others and stand away from open windows and entrances to buildings. If you are found to be smoking in a non-designated area a fine may be imposed and disciplinary action taken against you.

Drugs

Residential Services does not condone the use of drugs or other prohibited or controlled substances under the Misuse of Drugs
Act 1971. If you feel you are having problems with drugs or have encountered such activities seek advice immediately.

Meningitis

Meningitis is inflammation of the brain lining and is mainly caused by bacteria and viruses. Bacterial meningitis is quite rare, but can be very serious and requires urgent treatment with antibiotics as soon as possible. There is a national vaccination programme to offer inoculations for Meningitis C to all those under 18 and students in their first year at University. Personal and Campus Safety

The campus is generally a very safe environment, and violent or distressing incidents are very rare. There is CCTV on campus and 24 hour security presence. For more information on

Visitors

Overnight guests are permitted in study bedrooms for no more than two consecutive nights. If you invite guests into residences you are responsible for their behaviour and actions whilst they are on campus.Guests must not be left unattended in the flat at any time.

Welfare
 

The Manager of Residential Services and the Senior Residence Tutor are responsible for communal life, student welfare and discipline in the residences. They are assisted by the Residence Officers, Deputy Senior Residence Tutor and a team of Residence Tutors and Duty Postgraduates.

How and when to contact a Residence Officer

How and when to contact Residence Tutors and Duty Postgraduates

Residence Tutors and Duty Postgraduates are available out of hours including weekends to assist and provide support with welfare and accommodation related issues, including emergencies and can be contacted via Security.
