Workshops are FREE and available to all students. Please note that the period to sign up to a workshop starts from 2 weeks before the workshop date.

Workshop 1: Algebra Refresher

This refresher workshop will cover Arithmetic of Fractions, ­Indices, ­ Factorising, ­ Transposition and ­ Partial Fractions.

Workshop 2: Quadratic Equations

Thursday 13th October 2pm - 3.30pm (ref. no. 428)
Tuesday 15th November 10.30am -  12pm (ref. no. 429)

This workshop will include: The Quadratic formula, Completing the square, Factorising and Graphical solutions.

Workshop 3: Trigonometry

Tuesday 18th October 10.30am - 12pm (ref. no. 430)
Thursday 24th November 2pm -  3.30pm (ref. no. 431)

This workshop will discuss Trigonometric functions and ­Identities and their graphs.

Workshop 4: Descriptive Statistics

Thursday 20th October 2pm - 3.30pm (ref. no. 432)
Tuesday 22nd November 10.30am -  12pm (ref. no. 433)

This workshop will explore the various topics: Mean, median, mode ­ Variance, Standard Deviation and Grouped/ Ungrouped Data.

Workshop 5: Correlation

Tuesday 25th October 10.30am - 12pm (ref. no. 434)
Thursday 1st December 2pm -  3.30pm (ref. no. 435)

This workshop will look at Interpretation of scatter diagrams, Pearson correlation coefficient and the limitations of correlation.

Workshop 6: Regression

Thursday 27th October 2pm - 3.30pm (ref. no. 436)
Tuesday 29th November 10.30am -  12pm (ref. no. 437)

This workshop will focus on Scatter Diagrams, Linear regression, Interpolation and Extrapolation.

Workshop 7: Differentiation Refresher

Tuesday 1st November 10.30am - 12pm (ref. no. 438)
Thursday 8th December 2pm - 3.30pm (ref. no. 439)

This workshop will discuss differentiation of simple functions, Product & Quotient rule and Chain rule.

Workshop 8: Complex Numbers

Tuesday 3rd November 10.30am - 12pm (ref. no. 440)
Thursday 6th December 2pm - 3.30pm (ref. no. 441)

This workshop will cover Introduction to complex numbers, Argand diagram, Cartesian & Polar form, Complex conjugate and De Moivre’s theorem.

Workshop 1: Time Management

If you find you never seem to have enough time, and that you are trying to cram everything into one day, this workshop is for you. You will have a chance to learn some of the skills that will help you manage your time more effectively!       

Workshop 2: Working in a group

Tuesday 3rd November 10am - 11am (ref. no. 401)

The majority of students at Aston will be expected to work in a group for a project or assignment at some point during their course. This workshop  will consider: the challenges of group  work, how to  get the best out of your group, and how to help the group  to  function well.

Workshop 3: Dealing with Procrastination

Thursday 10th November 12.30pm - 1.30pm (ref. no. 402)

If you find you tend to put things off, postpone or delay doing things, you will find this workshop very useful. You will have the opportunity to learn more about procrastination and especially about ways of reducing it.      

Workshop 4: Managing Stress

Thursday 17th November 10am - 11am (ref. no. 403)

It is hard to pick up a newspaper and not read something about stress. This workshop will explore the nature of stress, especially as it might affect students. There will be a chance to learn a number of techniques which can help you to reduce stress.
