Mathematics
These modules will be delivered through the School of Engineering and Applied Science. The programme includes modules in transition maths, differential equations, vector algebra and geometry, statistics and probability, analysis, numerical methods, computational mathematics, calculus, stochastic processes, financial mathematics and time series.
Economics
These modules will be delivered by the Aston Business School. The programme includes modules on economics, quantitative techniques, business decision analysis, the principles of micro and macro economics, econometrics, business economics, emerging and transition economics, multi-national enterprise, industrial policy, and the economics of innovation and regulation used in Business. Modules to be studied can also be found below:
Year 1: Introduction to Economics, Quantitative Techniques, Business Decision Analysis.
Year 2: Principles of Micro Economics, Principles of Macro Economics, Introduction to Econometrics, International Business Economics.
OPTIONAL SANDWICH PLACEMENT YEAR
Final Year: Multi-National Enterprise, Economics of Innovation, Competition policy and economics of regulation (Double module)
Professional Experience
We encourage you to choose our four-year sandwich programme which incorporates the opportunity of spending the third year of your programme in a paid professional placement, gaining valuable practical experience in either the public, voluntary or private sector.
You will experience a wide variety of learning and teaching methods, including: lectures, tutorials and seminars, group and individual project work and use of our extensive computing facilities.
The optional year of employment can provide you with experience of the area you are looking to go into to lay the foundations for your final year of study. It is highly attractive to potential employers and around 30% of students are offered a job upon graduation by their placement year employer. You have the option to apply for a placement either in the UK or doing a placement abroad. You can do this either by searching and applying for one yourself or looking through our comprehensive database on placements available (between 2,000 and 3,000 jobs are advertised every year). You will be required to attend a programme of preparation, support and advice to increase the likelihood of getting the placement you desire.
The study of Mathematics opens up career opportunities in a wide range of areas. Our graduates obtain employment in financial institutions, industry and teaching. With a good degree, research in mathematics is possible.
