“What Goes Around: Colleges, Businesses and the Diploma In Engineering” (2009)

Client

Professor Alison Halstead, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Learning & Teaching Innovation

Brief

We were commissioned to make a video that would illustrate the close connection and progression between the pioneering Diploma in Engineering taught in Birmingham’s Frankley City Learning Centre (and other specialist secondary education colleges in the West Midlands) and the courses due to be taught at the new Aston University Engineering Academy, Birmingham when it launches in the near future. We also needed to show the support received from local engineering businesses towards the Diploma. The video would be part of the publicity package that would encourage further investment and partnership by businesses and other educational establishments.

Products

We filmed Diploma student classes led by a Midlands Wind Turbines installer and also a field trip to see them servicing a 15 metre high turbine at a nearby school. The students conducted field experiments and also participated in lectures and Q&As, and these videos were combined with location interviews with the College’s Diploma Head and the MD of the Wind Turbines business. The video we made was encoded for online delivery and for embedding into presentations; it was also shared with the participating college and company for them to use in their publicity and as examples of their work.
