Supporting Spanish Languages students 2010

Client

A CLIPP Project for Marco Aponte-Moreno, Lecturer in Spanish, School of Languages & Social Sciences

Brief

We were to act as the film crew for each of the 3 groups who had devised, written and rehearsed their own drama script. This meant that the group would not have to concern themselves with the technical requirements of filming but that we could act as co-directors with the group and positively steer the actors’ performances. The production and all discussions about production and performance between group members, as well as the actual dialogue of course, were to be carried out in Spanish.

Products

Our film crew was comprised of a cameraman and soundman, as well as a producer/director. We were able to influence the groups’ choices of locations and filmed in student accommodation, academic areas and various locations around the campus. None of our crew speaks any degree of conversational Spanish and so we had to work with a nominated group member who acted as translator for the student group and the film crew. We then worked with each group to edit their film as comprehensively and accurately as possible. The final videos were encoded as MP4 (for YouTube) and WMV (for PowerPoint) and delivered to the student groups, who were to hand in their film to be reviewed and critiqued as part of their mark-able work.
