Staff Induction DVD (2006)

Project Title: Staff Induction DVD 2006
Client: Staff Development, Aston University

Brief

We were asked to turn the live presentations presently (made by various departments within the university to new members of staff) into video clips that would allow the viewer to complete their induction process by watching the videos at their own pace.

The project was branded as a product of the university and delivered on a DVD format, so that every staff member could take their own copy away with them. The project incorporate videos and a 3D animation of the university campus into a large DVD platform, housing 15 separate video clips. Each video needed to be able to be regularly updated (to allow for regular amendments) and was to be seen as an introduction to the different departments (for example, Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities, Fire Safety, Sports, Admissions, Marketing, Personnel and so on), rather than a definitively complete, replacement work.

Media

We filmed short scripted videos about the university’s Equal Opportunities policies, fire safety procedures and health and safety principles as the main features of the DVD. The other presentations were composed from text-based slides mixed with still images or our own stock footage. Throughout the production, we made sure that we featured as many different aspects of employment within the university so that it would appear relevant and of interest to as many employees as possible.

The entire campus geography was rendered into a 3D animation that allowed us to make a ‘virtual tour’ throughout the campus, highlighting every building and department that a new staff member should be aware of, within a 4 minute film.

Comment

"From the outset this project was handled in a professional manner and effectively blended the expertise of Aston Media with that of other contributors to the project. The result being a product that fully met the requirements of the brief and which has subsequently been well received by the target audience."
