Learning Development Centre Promo (2011)

Client

Debbie De & Ellen Pope, LDC, Aston University

Brief

We were asked to make a video which illustrated the services and facilities which were available from the Learning Development Centre (LDC) in Aston University’s Library, and which would carry endorsements from staff and student feedback surveys. This was a video which had to work equally well without sound (as it would be shown on the LDC’s big screens) and which carried simple, easy-to-digest messages.

Products

We chose to make a video which only required a music bed (i.e. no sync sound) but which did not rely on that music to carry the video images. We shot in 3 stages. We filmed when the LDC was very busy, showing how the unit works. We also took text quotes from student feedback surveys and projected them onto surfaces around the unit – on furniture, the backs of laptops, table tops, on the walls – which we then filmed while students and staff walked through the shots. Finally we filmed with a group of the staff as they held up signage, announcing the facilities on offer (Group Study Areas, Academic Study Workshops, etc) to put a fun and friendly face on the service. The overall result has been very well received and has led to enquiries for similar work from other departments.
