Brief
Marketing asked us to make
5 videos for them which would illustrate various traits and selling points of
the university to new and prospective students. The video had to work as
stand-alone artefacts and as a suite of videos that would present an idealised
image of Aston to students considering study here, and their parents/guardians.
We were to use archive and specially-shot video footage, the university branding
and ‘active’, mobile text to convey complementary information. The 5 videos
address important selling points of Graduate Employment, Social and nightlife,
information for International Students, Support Services and a general
introductory promo. The audio was to be a mix of contemporary music and
vox-pops from student interviews. All the videos would then be sited within a
Flash-type presentation developed by the marketing department.
Products
Not
only could we draw upon our extensive archive of university-specific video
content but we were also able to film at university events and locations that
were to add to our library which and give the videos a much broader range and
scope. We used a combination of actual students and actors from the Birmingham Theatre
School at the Old Rep Theatre as the voices for the student comments. The
videos were edited on Avid and Adobe Premiere systems, and we also added text
via After-Effects animation software.The 5 videos were
encoded into Windows Media, MP4 and Flash formats, for various delivery requirements and can all be seen played through a bespoke interface here.
