Project Title: Student Fire Safety in Aston
University Accommodation
Client: Security, Aston University
Brief
We were requested to create a visually exciting and
engaging short presentation that explained the evacuation procedures for
students living in the accommodation blocks in Aston University. The
presentation also had to include basic fire prevention measures and safety
advice. It had to be pitched squarely at a target audience of 18-30 and have a
short running time, so it would not outstay its welcome and lose interest. We
coupled key safety information with a strong visual identity to create an
arresting piece, to appeal to the maximum viewership possible.
Media
Having proposed that we make this presentation
without video footage but instead using specially–shot still images, we were
able to work for the first time with a freelance professional photographer and two actors from the Birmingham Theatre
School. The storyboarded pictures were taken, then digitally colour-treated
to create a stronger, more striking graphical style. The pictures were then
edited in sequence (with clever mixes and dissolves and a strong music bed) to
create a ‘movie’ that only used still images but had plenty of movement and
variety in it. It was then encoded as a Flash file and sited on its own page
within the university website, to where students were directed to watch it. This
allowed the webmasters to be able to generate viewing statistics which would be
used to assess its success and impact upon the student community.
