Each
year the Library participates in the University’s Welcome Week Induction
programme and hopes to see as many new undergraduate and postgraduate students
as possible for a ‘Library Matters’ session. As part of the programme the
Library offers new students a very practical face-to-face introduction to using
the Library and the facilities we offer. However, there are many groups
of students who do not fit into the traditional induction timetable (including
distance learners) and some students who do not attend. This project is
providing online induction resources to be used all year round to include:
- online tutorials/screen capture to demonstrate access
to key resources with specific focus on off-campus access issues
- using Adobe Captivate to provide guidance on
developing research skills
- using Adobe Presenter to provide a Welcome talk and
information about Information Specialist support
- short video clips – to include demonstrations of
self-service facilities in the library
There
will be a feedback and evaluation mechanism via Blackboard to evaluate
students’ use of these online resources.
