This aim of this CLIPP funded project was to supplement the
practical lab component of the first year Physiology course. To enable students to view physiological
experiments that demonstrate important physiological principles but which are
not possible for them to perform themselves.
Two videos of different experiments were filmed and produced by Aston
Media, these were then placed on the Blackboard course site. Following their designated laboratory
practical classes students were also given data from the viewed experiment and
answered assessed questions online. This presentation will discuss the
rationale of using the Video practicals, the process of their production from
the “academic user” point of view, their success from analysis of assessment
and exam data, and “learner” experience from the course student survey
questionnaire.
