Centre for Learning Innovation and Professional Practice: The School Champion’s Role

The Centre for Learning Innovation and Professional Practice (CLIPP) regards the role of School Champion as fundamental to establish a good working partnership between CLIPP and Schools to enhance learning and teaching (L&T) across the University, and thereby enhance the student learning experience. The role of the Champions in its widest remit is outlined below. However, it is recognised that the individual Schools will bring their own identity to the role, depending on the requirements of the School and to facilitate the implementation of their Learning and Teaching Action Plans.

The Champion’s role as envisaged by CLIPP would include the following:
  • Membership of the statutory working groups, Curriculum and Learner Development and Learning Technologies, and the Learning and Teaching Research group by the appropriate Champion.
  • Participation in the Champions’ lunches to discuss issues, relevant topics and points of interest in L&T, and to disseminate ideas and good practice within and between the Schools.
  • To provide a point of contact, along with the Deputy/Associate Deans (L&T), in the Schools for CLIPP staff.
  • To attend, with the Deputy/Associate Deans (L&T),  the annual School L&T Action Plan review and setting residential.
  • To act as a conduit for information on L&T between CLIPP and the School, being able to bring the views of School colleagues to CLIPP on L&T issues.
  • To ‘signpost’ School staff to appropriate colleagues, both inside and outside the School, on L&T enquiries, and possibly work with CLIPP to facilitate the setting up of collaborative networks for L&T innovation and research across the University.
  • To ‘signpost’ CLIPP  and other staff to appropriate colleagues, both inside and outside the School, on L&T enquiries by being aware of L&T activity across the School and in their discipline.
  • To encourage School colleagues to participate in L&T events and calls for projects.
  • To be actively engaged in L&T innovation work.
  • It is not expected that the Champions will undertake all L&T tasks within the School, as there may be more appropriate and better placed colleagues to deal with L&T issues.
