Matthew graduated from Aston
University in July 2006
after which he started his previous role as Vice President Education
& Welfare and Deputy President of Aston Students’ Guild. For two years Matthew held a wide range of challenging and rewarding responsibilities, all of which were
crucial in the delivery of a high quality student experience at Aston University.
During his time working at Aston Students’ Guild Matthew was awarded the Aston
Graduates Association Award for lifelong contribution to the student life at Aston University,
Honorary Lifetime Membership of Aston Students’ Guild and full
Athletic Union Colours Award.
Matthew then joined CLIPP in November 2008 when he took on the role of Student Evaluation Officer. He is currently working on a piece
of evaluative research to discover and document the profile of those who use
and do not use the Learning Development Centre (LDC) from
both the student and academic body. This piece of research considers the reasons for student and staff use of the LDC and the impact the LDC has on student learning. In addition
this work will look for areas for future development, including learning about the needs of
off-campus, pre-entry and Foundation Degree students to anticipate
future programs/services the LDC may look to offer. Matthew will also look to
learn about the needs of academics from the LDC and how the LDC can become more
integrated into the curriculum design to complement the work done in
modules.
Matthew is
passionate about helping to deliver a high quality student experience and a
large aspect of this is the student learning experience. Since his role in the
Students' Guild , Matthew has been very keen on furthering his
knowledge about the student learning experience, development and support using mixed research
methodologies.
