Background

Anne gained a BSc (Hons) Environmental Science (1991) and a PGCE in Secondary Science (1992) at the University of Wolverhampton. Anne joined the University as a lecturer in geography and environmental science in 1996 and gained her PhD in 1999. In 2002 she was promoted to principal lecturer with responsibility for coordinating learning and teaching in the School of Applied Sciences. Anne was appointed Senior Learning and Teaching Research Fellow in the Institute for Learning Enhancement in 2006, coordinating learning and teaching research across the University and leading the development and validation of the Doctor of Education (Professional Practice in HE route).

Anne joined Aston University as the Head of Curriculum and Learner Development in May 2008. She has led the implementation of the single VLE at Aston and is chair of the Curriculum and Learner Development Working Group and the Blackboard User Group. Anne is also the Programme Director for the Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Practice in Higher Education. She will also be working with staff and students across the University in curriculum and learner development, including facilitating the dissemination of good practice and the implementation of blended and flexible learning to enhance student learning and achievement.

Anne has had a range of experience in curriculum development in her subject (Geography and Environmental Science), in learning and teaching and internationally in the modernisation and internationalisation of curricula. More recently Anne has been involved in the development of professional and employer-focused curricula and accreditation, and she continues in this role at Aston.

Research Interests

Pedagogic research interests include experiential and work-based learning; podcasting for learning enhancement; and international collaboration. Most recently Anne has been re-initiating research in curriculum development with partners in Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and the Russian Federation to evaluate international collaborative working.

Subject research is focused on aquatic and estuarine management.
