The Curriculum and Learner Development team within CLIPP will focus on developing innovative curricula and sharing good practice within learning and teaching to enhance the student learning experience. It will also provide learner support for students to develop their confidence and skills in order to achieve their full potential while at Aston and in their future careers.
Dr Anne Wheeler , the Head of Curriculum and Learner Development within CLIPP, has been committed to innovative and modern curriculum development and design that enhances student learning for many years. She commented that ‘since arriving at Aston I have seen examples of innovative practice in all Schools and it is clear that there is a commitment to be responsive to student learning in such a forward thinking and thriving institution. It is an exciting time at Aston and working with the Curriculum and Learner Development champions within the Schools we hope to build a dynamic and inspiring learning and teaching community that will capture and disseminate the enjoyment and benefits of innovation and good practice across the institution’.
The team will also be looking at opportunities for developing blended and flexible learning within the curriculum and will be working closely with the Media and Learning Technologies team in order to facilitate students’ access to learning at Aston wherever they are located. There will be close interaction with the Learning and Teaching Research team to disseminate their practice and research both within the institution and externally in the national and international arena.
Learner development support will be building on its success, with the Learning Development Centre (formerly Learning Skills Centre) extending its footprint within the Library in order to provide further student support . Also the peer mentoring initiative is continuing to grow with increased student participation across the institution, and as a result a new peer mentoring officer is being appointed for the coming year.
Staff within the institution will have the opportunity to develop their own professional practice through attendance at learning and teaching seminars or workshops run by CLIPP, or through enrolment on the Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Practice. It is hoped that a new MA Professional Practice in Higher Education will be developed for the 2009 academic year.
