Katy Read is currently an Associate Director at Middlemarch Environmental.

Katy credits her experience as a KTP Associate with equipping her with the practical skills and experiences that have helped her make the transition from an academic researcher to a manager of teams and projects.
When Katy landed the role as KTP Associate on the Middlemarch project she had just completed her PhD in Wetland Habitat Creation at Aston University. Through her postdoctoral research Katy gained the in-depth academic knowledge in her subject that she has used throughout her career. However it was only through her experiences as a KTP associate that Katy learned how to deliver projects to meet the demands of clients, and to develop her ideas to produce work streams and contracts.
In addition to the lessons that Katy learnt through working in her Associate role she also undertook valuable specialist training that was part of the KTP package. This included training in all aspects of management from project management to auditing, managing people to budgeting.
Being based in a company setting throughout her KTP project was something that Katy found invaluable - working in a professional, client focussed environment whilst still being able to draw on the practical technical support from academic colleagues at Aston University.
Since completing her KTP and joining Middlemarch Environmental as a consultant Katy has gone on to supervise further KTP Associates at the company.
Kay says of her KTP experience, ’my three years working as a KTP Associate formed a really solid foundation for my career since that point. I learnt a lot of valuable skills which helped me to bridge the gap between my academic research and the work environment.’
