St Giles Hospice has been recruiting placement students from Aston University since 2005. These are real roles, with real responsibility which have had a significant impact.
Students have taken on roles in departments such as HR and fundraising and marketing, enabling them to develop key business skills and to make a difference to their employer.
Business Administration and Sociology student Peter Woodward worked with the Human Resources Department & IT Department until the end of July 2009. Pardeep Halaith selected her placement in the IT Department to complement her BSc Computing for Business course by gaining an insight into the hands-on use of IT in the workplace. Business Administration and Politics student Martyn Caddick worked in the charity's Fundraising Department and is hoping to apply for a place on the Cancer Research UK graduate scheme when he graduates next year. All of the students maintain contact with the company, with Martyn continuing to work voluntarily for the fundraising department.
Peter Holliday, Chief Executive says: “The students aren't the only ones benefiting through placements with St Giles, and we're delighted to have such enthusiastic and talented undergraduates on the team.”
Organisations across all sectors can benefit from hiring a student for a year long placement. To find out more, please contact the Careers & Employability team on 0121 204 4757 or firstname.lastname@example.org
