Employing a Student on a Placement

At Aston we recognise that enhancing our students ‘employability is key to this success which is why we strongly encourage our students to take a placement year, whether this be in industry or the professions in the UK, or studying abroad to gain other relevant work experience. Aston is one of only four universities in the UK where over 50% of students undertake an integrated placement year as part of their studies.

We work with organisations of all sizes, across all sectors, most of whom have enjoyed the benefits of taking a student on a work placement, indeed many of these go on to employ a succession of placement students year on year

Could your organisation offer a student a work placement opportunity?

We hope that the information here will encourage you to get in touch and become one of the University’s new placement employers. We very much look forward to working with you.

What Is a Placement?

A Placement is a ‘real’ work experience gained within a ‘real’ working environment that will complement and support the student’s degree qualification and provide mutual benefit to both the employer and student.

The term placement usually refers to a year spent in an employer organisation between the second and final year of a degree course. This could be in any area of business, commerce, manufacturing or the public sector, in any size company or organisation.

At Aston however, we recognise any length work experience is a valid experience for our students and therefore if you are able to offer a shorter placement, perhaps over the summer, we would encourage you to contact us.
