Safety

Birmingham is one of the safest cities in the UK.
  • Of the eight major cities in the country (Newcastle, Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester, Liverpool, Nottingham, Birmingham and Bristol), Birmingham has the lowest crime rate.

  • Birmingham is ranked as the 12th safest out of 56 cities and local authorities, based on crime rates. Rural areas like Gloucester and Exeter fair far worse than Birmingham - a city with a population over one million. (Urban Crime Rankings,  2006)

  • Crime rates dropped by over 27% in Birmingham from April 2005 – April 2008.

Partnerships promoting safety in Birmingham

Initiatives like the Safer Birmingham Partnership are bringing together key organisations and the people of Birmingham to make the city even safer. West Midlands Police have recently launched Safer Students, full of handy advice and tips on staying safe.

We’re proud that our campus is particularly safe. Crime on the Aston campus is rare, and we have the lowest crime rate of any Midlands university.

Aston has a team of fully trained security staff and campus is covered by extensive CCTV and security patrols. We enjoy excellent relations with the local West Midlands Police, with two officers covering the campus ‘beat’.
