During the annual weekend-long Artsfest, Birmingham city centre comes to life with a world class range of performances, exhibitions and installations – all for free! The festival celebrates the astounding creative talent and cultural diversity of Birmingham and the West Midlands.
The International Carnival, Birmingham’s answer to the Notting Hill carnival, takes place every other year and offers great sights, music and food. Other multicultural events in the city include the Bangla Mela and the Vaisakhi Mela. Birmingham is also home to Europe's second largest St. Patrick's Day parade – only Dublin’s is bigger!
Birmingham Pride is a weekend-long festival held annually in the city. Thought to be the largest gay and lesbian event in the UK, it features a carnival parade, dance, music, stalls and entertainment.
Broad Street is regularly used as a backdrop for street parades and other lively spectacles and throughout the year the Arcadian Centre in Chinatown is the setting for a variety of street entertainment and themed weekends.
The NEC and NIA host many of the country’s major events and exhibitions including The Motor Show, Clothes Show Live, Crufts and the BBC Good Food Show.
Christmas is a magical time in Birmingham, when the city centre comes alive with lights and sounds, a Frankfurt German Christmas Market, a 60m high Big Wheel, an outdoor ice rink and over 6 million shoppers and visitors.
