Birmingham is a real student city and many restaurants, pubs, clubs, cinemas, museums and more offer generous student discounts. Aston is based right in the city centre, so most things are within easy walking distance, saving you transport costs.

Part-time work

If you want to earn some extra money whilst you're studying, there are plenty of part-time and weekend jobs available in Birmingham city centre. You could even work for us at Aston as a Student Ambassador!

Aston's Student JobShop helps students find work and always has new opportunities advertised on it's website, or you can drop in and have a chat.

As well as helping you out financially, a part-time job can also improve your employability skills. However, we recommend that you don't work more than 20 hours a week, so you have plenty of time left to concentrate on your academic work and enjoy a good social life!

Placement years & summer placements

Many Aston students take a paid placement year or a shorter term placement during University holidays. A placement is an invaluable opportunity and puts you at a real advantage when you start looking for a graduate job.
