Ryan Murphy joined Aston Law in September 2011. Before this, he studied for his LL.B at Cardiff University. He also completed an LL.M in European Legal Studies whilst at Cardiff Law School, obtaining a Distinction. His doctoral thesis, submitted to the University of Bristol under the supervision of Professor Panos Koutrakos, explored judicial interpretation of exceptions to the free movement of capital in EU law.

Ryan has research interests in many aspects of European Union internal market law, particularly European taxation law, prudential supervision, competition law and the process of capital liberalisation. He is also interested in the interaction between the United Kingdom legal order and the EU viewed from the perspective of British constitutional theory.

Ryan is the Module Leader for Constitutional and Administrative law, European Union law and English Legal System. Before coming to Aston, Ryan taught European Union Law and Policy as a tutor at the University of Bristol.

He has also acted as a specialist Delegate Reviewer for Oxford University
