Profile:
Carola joined Aston Business School in January 2012. The lectureship in Strategy is her first academic post after receiving a PhD from the University of St. Gallen/ Switzerland.
Prior to Aston, Carola spent a year as visiting researcher at the Hanken School of Economics/ Finland funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation.
Carola's PhD research focused on the role of middle managers in strategic planning processes, for this work she was recently nominated for the William H. Newman Award sponsored by the Academy of Management and received the Dr. Peter-Werhahn-Award for outstanding academic achievements in business studies from the University of St. Gallen/Switzerland.
While continuing her research on strategic planning, research interests are shifting towards strategy as a social practice, including questions of the professionalization of strategy and the role of strategy and concepts such as strategic planning for us as individuals in our professional and personal lives.

Research interests:
Carola's research is located at the intersections of strategy process and strategy-as-practice research. In terms of theory, her work is mostly inspired by sociologically grounded theories such as organizational routines, script theory, role theory and institutional theory. Most of her research applies a qualitative methodology in the tradition of grounded theory. Research designs vary from interview-based comparative case studies to longitudinal studies combining interview and observational data collection methods.
