Research Description
Research into the nature of maverick firms, the origins of their behaviour, the impact they have on collusion and their treatment by competition authorities. I am focusing my attention on identifying mavericks in the UK banking sector. I am also analysing the context in which the concept has been employed in past competition cases and whether this is appropriate. A core aim is to establish whether the origins of maverick behaviour should be of crucial significance when assessing potentially anti-competitive merger situations.
