Studying for a PhD in Law at Aston:
We accept both full time and part time PhD applications.
Full time PhD: 3 years
Part time PhD: 6 years
Applicants are normally expected to have achieved a first or upper second class Honours degree in Law from an approved University or Institution of Higher Education.
Graduate Teaching Assistantships
As Aston Law is part of the world-renowned Aston Business School, our PhD applicants can apply for a position as a graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA). GTAs work within their Academic Groups carrying out a range of activities including teaching and marking.
GTAs are awarded for three years (contingent on satisfactory progress and are worth £20,000 per annum. Student fees are paid out of this sum, with the remainder paid to the student over the year. Students will be expected to pursue the PhD programme on a full-time basis and will be required to assist their Academic Group with its teaching load for an average of 6 hours per week.
To be eligible to apply for the GTA’s candidates must first hold an offer of a place on the PhD programme at Aston Business School. The deadline for GTA applications is the 19th of April 2013. To apply, you must first make a full application for a PhD (http://www1.aston.ac.uk/study/postgraduate/apply/apply/) and you will then be contacted about the GTA position by our admissions team. Therefore, applicants should apply before this deadline so that their PhD application can be processed and to ensure that they are eligible for the GTA position.
